$10 Parasite Medications for 12 children
This gift allows us to buy medications to treat 12 children in Ecuador for parasites through our Health Care Volunteer Vacation program. Parasites are the most common problem for our patients in highland Ecuador and prevent them from eating and growing properly. The one-pill treatment helps them develop healthily and live without constant pain.
$25 Medications to treat stomach bacteria for 3 patients
This gift allows us to buy medications to treat 3 people in Ecuador for h. pylori through our Health Care Volunteer Vacation program. H. pylori is a bacteria causing serious stomach infections that develop into stomach cancer, and its incidence in some parts of highland Ecuador can be as much as 80%. Patients must take a regimen of four different medications to treat the infection, but after they do they feel much better and greatly reduce their risk of stomach cancer.
$35 Classroom supplies for literacy classes in Mali
This gift allows us to buy slates and chalk for a class full of women in our Tommo So Literacy Program. For the first time, adult women have the chance to learn basic reading and writing in their native language, Tommo So, and, as they say, "step out of darkness into light."
$50 Fruit Trees
This gift allows us to buy fruit trees for an orchard in rural Mali. Orchards provide fruits such as papayas, bananas, guavas, pomegranates, lemons, oranges, and custard apples, that would otherwise be unavailable in villages. They offer dietary diversity as well as a source of income for schools and communities who care for the trees and grow the fruit.
$70 Books for literacy classes in Mali
This gift allows us to print literacy and numeracy books for women in Malian villages who participate in our literacy program. These books were the first developed in Tommo So, the native language of Wadouba Commune. For the first time, adult women have the chance to learn basic reading and writing in their own tongue and, as they say, "step out of darkness into light."
$100 School books and uniforms for one student
This gift allows us to provide the uniforms and books that an Ecuadorian secondary school student needs to continue her or his education for one year. Public schools in highland Ecuador do not charge tuition, but the many other required costs, such as uniforms and school supplies make it impossible for many children to attend school beyond sixth grade. This gift will help one student achieve his or her dreams.
$300 Full scholarship for secondary school
This gift allows us to provide a complete scholarship for an Ecuadorian secondary school student for one year. Public schools in highland Ecuador do not charge tuition, but the many other required costs, such as uniforms, books and supplies, and transportation, make it impossible for many children to attend school beyond sixth grade. This gift will help one student achieve his or her dreams.
$600 Half University scholarship for one semester
This gift allows us to provide 50% of the university fees and other costs that one student in highland Ecuador needs to study at an institution of higher education for one semester. Tandana's university scholarships provide half the costs, while the students work to pay the other half. Many bright students are unable to pursue higher education because they lack the economic resources and also have responsibilities to provide for their family’s needs. This gift will help one student achieve his or her dreams of becoming a professional and making a difference in his or her community.
